Secure Connection Between AWS VPC and On-Premises Network Using AWS Site-to-Site VPN

Project Overview

Establish a secure and reliable connection between an AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) and an on-premises private network using AWS Site-to-Site VPN to enable seamless communication and resource sharing.

Technologies and Services Used

  • Networking: IPsec VPN, Routing, Subnetting, Firewalls

  • Security: Encryption, Security Groups

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architecture Design: Designed the network architecture to securely integrate the AWS VPC with the on-premises network using AWS Site-to-Site VPN.

  • AWS VPC Configuration: Set up and configured an AWS VPC, including subnets, route tables, and security groups, tailored to the project's security and performance requirements.

  • AWS Site-to-Site VPN Setup: Configured an AWS Virtual Private Gateway and established a Site-to-Site VPN connection, enabling secure communication with the on-premises network.

  • On-Premises Configuration: Collaborated with the on-premises network team to configure the customer gateway device, ensuring compatibility with AWS Site-to-Site VPN.

  • Routing & Traffic Management: Implemented routing tables and managed VPN routing policies to ensure efficient traffic flow and network performance.

  • Security: Applied security best practices by using strong encryption protocols, configuring security groups

  • Testing & Troubleshooting: Conducted comprehensive testing of the VPN connection, identifying and resolving issues related to connectivity, security, and performance.

  • Monitoring & Optimization: Deployed monitoring tools such as AWS CloudWatch to continuously monitor the VPN connection and optimize for performance and reliability.

Project Outcomes

  • Successfully established a secure and high-performing VPN connection that enabled seamless and secure communication between AWS-hosted resources and the on-premises network, meeting the business needs and ensuring data integrity and security.
