Multi-Cloud Network Configuration between Azure and AWS

Project Overview

I was responsible for the design and implementation of a cloud network configuration project, connecting AWS and Azure environments securely. The setup involved connecting 4 private AWS networks using AWS Transit Gateway (TGW) and establishing a site-to-site VPN connection between AWS and Azure. This configuration enabled Azure’s serverless APIs to communicate privately with instances hosted within AWS private networks. The solution ensured seamless, secure connectivity across the two cloud platforms.

Technologies and Services Used

  • AWS Transit Gateway (TGW): Used to connect and route traffic between multiple AWS VPCs.

  • AWS VPC (Virtual Private Cloud): Configured for 4 private networks on AWS.

  • AWS Site-to-Site VPN: Established a secure VPN connection between AWS and Azure.

  • Azure Virtual Network: Configured for Azure resources to interact with AWS privately.

  • Azure Serverless APIs: Connected serverless APIs on Azure to AWS private network instances.

  • AWS Security Groups and NACLs: Managed network access control to ensure secure communication between AWS and Azure resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transit Gateway Configuration: Configured AWS Transit Gateway to connect 4 private AWS VPCs, enabling centralized routing and communication between the isolated networks.

  • VPN Setup Between AWS and Azure: Established and configured a site-to-site VPN connection between AWS and Azure, allowing secure communication between both environments.

  • Private Network Integration: Integrated Azure serverless APIs with AWS private network instances, ensuring secure data exchange between the two cloud platforms without exposing them to the public internet.

  • Network Security Configuration: Managed and configured security groups and network ACLs to restrict access and ensure secure communication across both cloud platforms.

  • Network Monitoring: Implemented network monitoring tools to ensure traffic flow, detect anomalies, and optimize the network configuration.

  • Troubleshooting and Optimization: Identified and resolved network performance issues, ensuring a smooth and reliable connection between AWS and Azure.

Project Outcomes

  • Seamless Cross-Cloud Connectivity: Successfully established secure, private connectivity between AWS and Azure, allowing serverless APIs on Azure to interact with AWS private networks.

  • Centralized Routing with TGW: Efficiently routed traffic between 4 private AWS networks using AWS Transit Gateway, reducing complexity and improving network management.

  • Secure VPN Communication: Deployed a site-to-site VPN ensuring encrypted communication between the two cloud environments, protecting sensitive data during transmission.

  • Improved Network Security: Enhanced security across both platforms by configuring robust access controls and minimizing exposure to the public internet.

  • Reliable and Scalable Network: The network architecture was designed to scale as the infrastructure grows, with centralized routing and monitoring to ensure performance and reliability.
