Project Overview
In this project, I designed and deployed a hybrid infrastructure on AWS for a FinTech platform, using 80% serverless technologies and 20% traditional server-based architecture. The server-based component hosts an Odoo ERP system, which runs in a private network using EC2 instances behind an Elastic Load Balancer (ELB) and Auto Scaling for resilience and scalability. The rest of the FinTech application, including APIs, was built using serverless services, ensuring high availability, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
Technologies and Services Used
Odoo ERP: Deployed on EC2 instances in a private network, accessible via ELB.
Amazon EC2 with Auto Scaling: For running the server-based ERP system.
Elastic Load Balancer (ELB): For distributing traffic to the Odoo ERP instances.
AWS API Gateway: Exposed serverless APIs to external users.
AWS Lambda: Used for running back-end API logic in a serverless environment.
Amazon RDS (Serverless): For the database layer, providing auto-scaling and high availability for the FinTech APIs.
AWS Cognito: Managed authentication and authorization for the application.
AWS Step Functions: Orchestrated complex workflows for the FinTech APIs.
Amazon ECS with Fargate: Containerized specific tasks to run serverless within the infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
Hybrid Infrastructure Design: Designed a 20% server-based and 80% serverless infrastructure that balanced performance, scalability, and cost efficiency for the FinTech application.
ERP System Deployment: Deployed the Odoo ERP on EC2 instances, configured Auto Scaling to handle variable loads, and placed the system behind an ELB for traffic distribution.
Serverless API Implementation: Designed and implemented serverless APIs using AWS Lambda, API Gateway, and Step Functions, integrating them with a serverless RDS database.
Authentication and Authorization: Implemented AWS Cognito for secure user authentication and authorization, ensuring secure access to the FinTech APIs.
Infrastructure Automation: Leveraged CloudFormation for automating the deployment of both the server-based and serverless components.
Cost Optimization: Ensured cost efficiency by utilizing serverless technologies where appropriate and using EC2 Auto Scaling to manage server capacity effectively.
Project Outcomes
Scalable Infrastructure: Successfully built an infrastructure that could automatically scale both serverless and server-based components to handle variable traffic, ensuring high performance and availability.
High Availability: The hybrid approach allowed the infrastructure to remain resilient, with the serverless components benefiting from AWS's built-in high availability and the server-based system leveraging Auto Scaling.
Cost Efficiency: By utilizing serverless solutions for 80% of the infrastructure, the overall operational costs were significantly reduced while maintaining scalability and performance.
Security: Implemented robust security measures using AWS Cognito for secure authentication and authorization, safeguarding the FinTech platform’s sensitive data.
