Project Overview
This project involved creating a robust Azure infrastructure to host NetBox, a tool for modeling and documenting modern networks. The setup included configuring virtual machines (VMs) for deploying NetBox, implementing load balancing to ensure high availability, and automating the deployment process with Ansible. Infrastructure as code was managed using Terraform to ensure consistent and repeatable deployments.
Technologies and Services Used
NetBox: An open-source tool for modeling and documenting networks.
Azure Virtual Machines (VMs): Deployed NetBox on multiple VMs for high availability.
Azure Load Balancer: Implemented load balancing to distribute traffic evenly across VMs and ensure high availability.
Azure Virtual Network (VNet): Configured network resources and security within Azure.
Azure SQL Database: Managed the backend database for NetBox.
Azure Blob Storage: Used for storing large files and backups.
Azure Monitor: Enabled monitoring and logging for infrastructure health and performance.
Ansible: Developed an Ansible role for automated deployment and configuration of NetBox on Ubuntu systems.
Terraform: Used for infrastructure as code to define and provision the Azure infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
Azure Infrastructure Setup: Configured and deployed Azure VMs to host NetBox, ensuring adequate resources for its operation.
Load Balancer Configuration: Set up Azure Load Balancer to distribute incoming traffic across multiple VMs, improving performance and reliability.
Network Configuration: Designed and implemented an Azure Virtual Network (VNet) to secure and manage network communication between VMs.
Database Management: Configured Azure SQL Database for NetBox, ensuring reliable and scalable data storage.
Storage Solutions: Utilized Azure Blob Storage for managing backups and storing large files.
Ansible Role Development: Created an Ansible role to automate the deployment and configuration of NetBox on Ubuntu systems, ensuring consistency and efficiency.
Terraform Implementation: Used Terraform to define and provision the Azure infrastructure, allowing for infrastructure as code and ensuring repeatable and consistent deployments.
Monitoring and Maintenance: Integrated Azure Monitor for tracking performance metrics, logging, and proactive issue detection.
Project Outcomes:
Automated Deployment: Achieved automated deployment and configuration of NetBox using Ansible, reducing manual intervention and improving deployment efficiency.
High Availability Deployment: Ensured high availability with Azure VMs and Load Balancer, providing reliable access to NetBox.
Scalable Infrastructure: Implemented a scalable Azure infrastructure that can handle increased load and future growth.
Effective Load Balancing: Enhanced application performance and reliability with effective load balancing across multiple VMs.
Infrastructure as Code: Utilized Terraform for defining and managing infrastructure as code, ensuring consistent and repeatable deployments.
Secure Network Configuration: Ensured secure and efficient network communication through Azure Virtual Network (VNet).
Comprehensive Monitoring: Enabled real-time monitoring and logging with Azure Monitor, allowing for proactive management of infrastructure health.
